What is the meaning of です (desu)?
Copula. Functions like 'is/am/are.' Used to politely end sentences identifying or describing something: これは本です (This is a book).

On'yomi: サン (san). Kun'yomi: やま (yama). Meaning: mountain.

Fill in the particle: 私___学生です。
は (wa). 私は学生です。= I am a student. Topic marker は marks 'I' as the topic.
