Excel to flashcards — every row becomes a card

Drop an Excel file or CSV — a vocabulary list, a glossary, a list of terms and definitions. Your rows are read right here in your browser and shown as cards before you sign up.

Why import a spreadsheet

Your list, as it is

Rows import as they are: no AI rewriting, no credits used. The first row's headings become the card's fields, like Word, Meaning and Example.

Nothing uploaded to preview

The file is read in your browser. You see your first cards before creating an account, and the file stays on your device until you sign up.

Media links work too

Columns with links to images, audio or videos are recognised and shown on the card instead of as plain text.

Gaps don't stop the import

Rows missing a required field are set aside, not dropped silently. Fill them in with AI, use a placeholder, or skip them.

How to turn a spreadsheet into flashcards

1. Put one card per row. Use the first row for headings (for example Word, Meaning, Example) and one item per row below.

2. Save as Excel or CSV. Excel (.xlsx, .xls) and CSV both work. In Google Sheets, use File → Download → Microsoft Excel or CSV.

3. Drop the file in the box. Your first rows appear as cards right away, with a count of how many will be imported.

4. Sign up and import. Create a free account and the import starts in your dashboard. Then study with FSRS on web, iPhone and Android.

Coming from Quizlet or Anki?

Quizlet sets export as text you can save as CSV. Anki notes export as CSV too — or import the whole deck with its images and audio from Anki import. For step-by-step migration guides, see importing an Anki CSV and importing Anki Excel files.

Don't have a list yet? Paste your notes in the Text tab or type a topic, and AI writes the cards for you.

Frequently asked questions

Is importing a spreadsheet free?

Yes. Importing rows as they are is free on every plan and uses no AI credits. Images and audio count toward your plan's storage.

What should my spreadsheet look like?

One card per row, with headings in the first row. Two columns (front and back) is the simplest; extra columns such as Example or Notes become extra fields on the card.

Can I import from Google Sheets?

Yes. In Google Sheets choose File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) or Comma-separated values (.csv), then drop the file here.

Is there a row limit?

No fixed row limit. Large files are read in your browser, so very large sheets just take a little longer.

What happens to empty cells?

A row with an empty required field is set aside so you can fill it in with AI, add a placeholder, or skip it. Nothing disappears without you knowing.
