Why make flashcards from videos

From what's said, not the title

Cards come from the video's transcript, so they cover the actual explanations, definitions and examples — not just the description.

Jump back to the moment

When you make video decks in your dashboard, each card can link to the moment in the video it came from, so you can rewatch the explanation when a card is hard.

Any subject, many languages

Lectures, language lessons, exam prep, tutorials. Videos with captions work in the language they're spoken in.

Study it, don't just watch it

Watching feels like learning; recalling is what makes it stick. FSRS schedules each card right before you'd forget it.

How to turn a YouTube video into flashcards

1. Copy the video link. Use Share → Copy link in YouTube, or copy the address from your browser. youtube.com and youtu.be links both work.

2. Paste it in the YouTube tab. Press Create flashcards. Deckbase fetches the video's transcript — no download needed.

3. Check the cards. AI writes question-and-answer cards from what's said. The whole deck appears right away.

4. Save and study. Create a free account to keep the whole deck and review it with spaced repetition on any device.

Which videos work best

Talking-heavy videos make the best decks: lectures, explainers, language lessons and tutorials. Music videos and videos with little speech give the AI little to work with.

Videos with captions (including YouTube's automatic ones) work at any length. The free preview uses the first few minutes; after signing up, the assistant can work through the whole video.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn a YouTube video into flashcards for free?

Yes. Paste a link above and your deck appears without an account. A free account saves the whole deck and includes free credits for more AI decks.

Does the video need captions?

Captions make it work best, and most videos have YouTube's automatic captions. If a video has none, the preview may not be able to read it — try another video, or paste the transcript into the Text tab.

How long can the video be?

Any length when it has captions. The free preview uses the first few minutes; the full version in your dashboard reads the whole video.

Are the video and its audio downloaded?

No. Only the transcript text is read, and the preview's cards are kept for 7 days until you sign up and save them.

Can I edit the cards?

Yes. Every card opens in the editor, where you can change the wording, add images or audio, and delete anything you don't need.
