Why make flashcards from pictures

No retyping

The AI reads the text in your photo — printed pages, slides, diagrams with labels and clear handwriting — and turns each idea into a question and answer.

Works with what's on your phone

Screenshots of lecture slides, photos of a borrowed textbook, a whiteboard after class. JPG, PNG and WebP images all work.

You stay in control

Every card opens in the editor before you study it. Fix the wording, add an image block or audio, and delete anything that missed.

Spaced repetition included

Cards go straight into a review queue scheduled by FSRS, so you see each one again right before you'd forget it — on web, iPhone and Android.

How to turn an image into flashcards

1. Take or pick a photo. Use a sharp, well-lit picture where the text fills most of the frame. Crop out the desk and margins.

2. Drop it in the box. Drop the image above or click to choose it. The picture is resized in your browser before it is read.

3. Check the cards. AI writes question-and-answer cards from the text and labels it finds. The whole deck appears right away.

4. Save and study. Create a free account to keep the whole deck, then review it with FSRS on any device.

Getting good cards from photos

One page or slide per photo gives the most focused cards. A whole double-page spread works, but the AI has to choose what matters from more material.

Diagrams work best when their labels are readable: the AI uses the labels to write cards like “What does the mitral valve separate?”. For pure pictures with no text, add a sentence of context in the Text tab instead.

Have a whole chapter as a scan? Use a PDF instead — see PDF to flashcards. The preview reads the first pages; the full version reads the whole book.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make flashcards from a picture for free?

Yes. Drop a photo above and your deck appears without an account. A free account saves the whole deck and includes free credits for more AI decks.

Does it read handwriting?

Clear handwriting usually works. Messy or very small writing can be misread, so check the cards before you study them — every card is editable.

Which image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP. For scanned books and multi-page documents, upload a PDF instead.

Can I keep the picture on the card?

Yes. After saving, add an image block to any card in the editor to show the original figure next to the question.

Is my photo stored?

Not for the preview: the image is sent once to create the cards and isn't saved to your account. Only the cards are kept, for 7 days, until you sign up and save them.
